Destin to Dog Island (near Carrabelle)
Tuesday-Wednesday January 27-29, 2026
Tuesday
We cast off from the marina in Destin at 9am, and thankfully that extra hour gave the frost a chance to melt off the windows. Frost… in Florida… on a boat?! 🥶 Handling wet lines in that cold is not the vibe.
Once we got underway, though, the ride was beautiful and the sunshine slowly warmed us back up. I spent some time working on yet another piece of isinglass, making do with the scraps I have left until my next order arrives — boat life improvisation at its finest.
We fueled up just before settling into our anchorage for the night, then had Eddie and Karen from Winsor Rose over for happy hour. Such genuinely wonderful people — great company to end the day with.

Wednesday
We left our quaint little anchorage and pointed the bow toward Carrabelle. Instead of heading into town, we decided to anchor again, saving time in the morning as we stage for our crossing over the top of the Gulf to Steinhatchee. The wind and waves have made this stretch nearly impossible for Loopers over the past couple of weeks, so we’re really hoping tomorrow is our window. 🤞
I complete finished a couple more isinglass windows but it’s going to be too rolls to get them on😩
The last hour of the ride wasn’t exactly pleasant — rolling beam seas up to three feet or more had us tacking side to side. Not terrible… just uncomfortable. Tacking… here we go!
The anchorage itself is lovely and should protect us from the north wind tonight — if the wind ever decides to shift. It’s taking its sweet time. We made dinner while swaying back and forth like we were in a slow, unplanned dance 🤪
Here’s hoping tomorrow brings calmer seas and a green light to cross! 🌊⛵️
