Day 221-Crossing the Gulf from Carrabelle to Steinhatchee

Thursday January 29, 2026

The anchorage (Carrabelle Beach), where we spent the night along with Winsor Rose was very rolling with waves until after midnight. As we tried to get some sleep, I immediately awoke when it became calm. It felt so wrong! Did we drift and go aground? Why are we not moving at all? I got up and looked out–looked at the anchor alarm and all was just fine. It was JUST THAT CALM! Slept like a baby the rest of the night. Morning came early and was chilly when we got up. We looked at multiple weather sources for wave and wind predictions, had a call with Winsor Rose and we all decided to give it a go. Winsor Rose took a great sunrise shot of our boat while they were on the beach walking their dog.

Three other boats that were in a marina came out and joined us. The 5 of us (Edna’s Secret, 4th Dimension, Avontuur, Winsor Rose and Us) started out for our 70 mile/ 8 hour day of crossing the top section of the Gulf. We were mostly 20 miles off shore during this time. The first 4 hours were pretty rocking and rollin but the last half was beautiful! I even went and sat out on the bow for quite awhile. I haven’t been able to do that for awhile.

Four hours…

We rolled into Sea Hag Marina in Steinhatchee and got settled at the dock. The sunset was beautiful and the water was calm. We will be here for sure until Monday morning, then hopefully cross down to Cedar Key (45 miles). We will see. The wind Saturday and Sunday will be blowing 28, gusting to 45mph with wave height up to 7-9 feet! Hard NO! Tomorrow (Friday) will be a high of 62 so we will take advantage of that and wash the boat!
