Day 260–Monday March 9, 2026

Miami, here we come!

We cruised across Biscayne Bay on an absolutely perfect weather day—calm water, blue skies, and engines humming along just the way they should. By mid-day we were threading our way through downtown Miami, and I have to say…thank goodness it was a Monday and not the weekend! From what we’ve heard, the boating traffic here can be downright unbearable when it’s busy. We’ll happily take the weekday version.

Going through Miami

We only had two bridges that needed to open for us, which sounded simple enough…until the first bridge tender decided to audition for the role of Least Helpful Person of the Day. The bridge is supposed to open on the hour and half hour. We—and several other boats—were lined up right at noon, ready to go. Apparently he had other plans and announced he wasn’t opening until 1:00 pm. One boat got so irritated they turned around and left. And then—because why not—he opened it at 12:30 anyway. What a gem. 🙄

Thankfully, the next bridge tender restored our faith in humanity and opened right on schedule like a normal person. Two bridges down and we were on our way again—very glad there weren’t more of them today!

By 2pm we reached our anchorage at Bakers Haulover Basin. There were quite a few boats scattered around the basin, and some looked like they might have been there long enough to start receiving mail. A few even had their own mooring buoys set up. Still, we managed to tuck ourselves into a perfect little spot.

The rest of the afternoon was exactly what boat life should be—quiet and easy. We took the dinghy out for a little ride, soaked in the sunshine, and later parked ourselves on the bow just before dinner to enjoy the shade and the view.

All in all, it turned into a calm, peaceful night on the hook…a pretty nice way to end a day that started with a bridge tender acting like a grumpy hall monitor. 🚤🌅
